The Hallmarks of Aging
The nine hallmarks of aging areĀ genomic instability, telomere attrition, epigenetic alterations, loss of proteostasis, deregulated nutrient sensing, mitochondrial dysfunction, cellular senescence, stem cell exhaustion, and altered intercellular communication.
Wow-what a mouthful, who knew? there is a new game in town. in the next few posts, I will be doing a deep dive into what these mean and more importantly what we can do right now to extend our healthspan. A major challenge is to dissect the interconnectedness between the candidate hallmarks and their relative contribution to aging, with the final goal of identifying supplements to improve human health during aging with minimal side effects.
